The film is based on the play of the same name by Russian writer A.N. Ostrovsky. The Snow Maiden is the daughter of Father Frost and the beautiful Spring. Her icy heart had known no simple human joys, nor real love before she met Lel. His love and his warmth had melted the cold beauty’s heart and made the girl see all the richness of the world around her. The spirituality-infused images of nature, merry round dances, folk songs and games are component parts of this fairy-tale movie’s plot.
